HRV = HEART RATE VARIABILITY TRAINING

HRV training is part of ECS. It is a great tool for handling stress as well as for helping your nervous system into balance by using your breath. It enhances your body`s capable of adapting to the environment and perform at its best. HRV is used successfully among elite athletes. It truly is a tool for life!

What?

Our autonomous nervous system (ANS) is subdivided into two large components. One is called the sympathetic, also known as for its fight and flight response. The other is called parasympathetic nervous system and it holds the rest and digest response. The brain is constantly processing information and the autonomous nervous system is constantly sending signals to our body to either to stimulate or to relax.

When we experience challenging emotions, that might arise during competitions, our heart will beat faster. The fight or flight response, which is dominant, will in turn increase activity in the amygdala (our emotional memory center). Then the stress hormone, cortisol, is produced which will shut down noncritical functions in your body, to better handle the stressor at hand. This could lead to poor sleep, high blood pressure, anxiety, longer recovery time and a lower performance rate, than during training. Our body might also tense up which, in turn will spread to our horse.

But, do not despair, through some simple exercises you can easily trick the system into thinking that all is well.

As we rebalance our ANS through HRV breathing and focus exercises, our cortex (thinking brain) activity increases and the body´s restoring hormones, such as DHEA, are activated. The result is a better coherence between our body´s systems for speeding and slowing down.

Just 10 min/day, for about 6-9 weeks, will be give your body the ability to generate a new balanced normal. HRV training first teaches your body how to achieve inner balance in a calm environment and then how to stay

lanced in more critical situations, such as competitions.

How?

In person coaching sessions, minimum 3 times during a 9 week period. Each session 50 min. We measure and define

out your "inner age" before and after this 9 week period. Between sessions, I will provide you with easy exercises to perform whenever it suits you.
