YOGA

Yoga is part of ECS. It is an old holistic system that aims to create balance in all parts of life.

The word yoga means "to yoke" or "to unite" and aims to create union between body, mind and spirit. Yoga is about 5,000 years old and originates from India.

Yoga is a holistic approach to wellbeing with physical, emotional and spiritual dimensions. You could say that yoga is a life philosophy that advocates openness, moderation, and reflection on your surroundings, and what is happening to you.

There are many types of yoga, ranging from very physically demanding to calm and restorative. Yoga also teaches how to find peace and happiness. Sattva Riders Yoga*, SRY is a type of yoga I´ve created, completely tailored to the specific needs of the horse rider.

Yoga is not a religion and does not need religious attributes such as incense, special music or clothes. You do not need to be flexible, thin, pretty, young or rich. You only need to be you,  just the way you currently are. In yoga, you simply do what you can, with what you have in the moment.

Physically, yoga has a tremendous power in strengthening a person´s weaknesses and by so doing creating balance in the body. The principle is the same whether you are a beginner or an elite athlete.

Apart from physical aspects there are also different breathing and meditation techniques allowing you to find an easy way to wind down, make you more present and at the same time find inner peace.

Sage Pantajli who compiled the first yoga philosophy defines yoga as an ability to control one´s own random thoughts and achieve a stillness, a calmness that creates inner harmony.

More and more mainstream medical practices are adopting yoga therapeutically, as growing research shows its efficiency in aiding recovery. One of mteachers Dr.Timothy McCall (American doctor and yoga teacher) wrote the book Yoga as medicine. It is the first comprehensive overview of the medical look at the benefits of yoga and its therapeutic uses, to heal you when you are sick.

Hospitals are beginning to open integrative healthcare departments, adding yoga therapies as part of their complementary practices because yoga has a tremendous power to heal you from the inside and out.

For me yoga is nothing I do, its something I live!
